💔 Finding Healing After Loss: The Power of Safe Release

by Yashica Budde, LMFT | Founder Owner of Smash RX
Grief takes many forms. Sometimes healing begins when we give ourselves permission to feel — to cry, to scream, to break what’s already broken inside us — safely. Today, we honor your strength.
🌫️ When Grief Feels Too Heavy
Grief after losing someone to suicide is complex. It can bring a flood of emotions — sadness, guilt, confusion, anger, even relief — and they can surface all at once or come in waves.
It’s not a process you simply “get over.” It’s something you move through — slowly, in your own time, and in your own way.
Many survivors describe grief as something that sits in the body: a heaviness in the chest, a tightness in the throat, a fatigue that sleep can’t fix. When we hold pain inside for too long, it can manifest physically — through headaches, muscle tension, changes in appetite, or disrupted sleep. Emotional pain doesn’t always speak in words; sometimes, it shows up in our bodies.
💥 The Power of Safe Release
Healing often begins when we give ourselves permission to express, not suppress, what we feel.
At
Smash RX, we believe that safe emotional release is an essential part of recovery. Whether that release happens through smashing, writing, crying, or creating, the
act of letting go is deeply human.
Here are a few ways to process grief safely and meaningfully:
1.
Smash Therapy (Destruction with Intention)
Physical release can help the body let go of pent-up emotions when words aren’t enough. Smash Therapy provides a safe space to break, release, and reset helping the body and mind reconnect after being overwhelmed by pain or trauma.
Our signature Plate Therapy takes this a step further. You write what’s weighing you down the guilt, the sadness, the “what ifs”, directly onto a plate, and then you release it with purpose. The act of physically smashing what once felt too heavy to say out loud can be incredibly cathartic, especially if you’re unsure where to start with traditional talk therapy.
It’s not about destruction for destruction’s sake it’s about transforming emotional pain into movement and giving yourself permission to feel again, without judgment or shame.
2. Sound Baths & Meditation
Vibrational healing through sound allows the nervous system to slow down. The frequencies of singing bowls and gongs calm the mind, allowing emotional energy to move through instead of staying trapped.
3. Journaling
Writing can be a powerful way to make sense of your emotions. You might write a letter to your loved one, a list of what you wish you could say, or even just words that describe your feelings. There is no “right” way — only your way.
4. Therapy & Support Groups
Sometimes the most courageous act is asking for help. Talking with a therapist or joining a survivors’ group can help you find community in your healing. You don’t have to carry your grief alone — there are people who will hold space for your story without judgment.
🌱 Normalizing Mental Health Care
Loss reminds us of the importance of taking care of our mental health before life becomes too heavy. Seeking therapy isn’t a sign of weakness — it’s an act of strength, a choice to face the pain rather than be defined by it.
When we normalize talking about mental health and going to therapy, we create a world where fewer people suffer in silence.
If you’re struggling, know this: asking for help does not mean you are broken — it means you are brave enough to want better for yourself.
